In these times of working-from-home, you want to make sure you are working in an effective workspace! I was recently on New Day sharing my top tips for an improved work-from-home experience. Watch the video below to hear some great advice for working from home! 👇😉

5 tips for working from home:

1. Bring the outdoors inside!

Open your windows, light a candle, air out your space! With so many of us cooped up inside, you don’t want your office to start to feel stuffy. So throw open the windows and get some air! It will make your house feel and smell better. Secondly- bring the green in! It gives you something alive to care for. *And* it improves air quality; a win-win! Did you know that research shows working near plants can increase productivity by 15 percent and helps concentration?

2. Use Your Vertical Storage space!

Use your wall space for organization! Wall-hanging file organizers, shelves, calendars, and tack boards- to name just a few ideas! The image shown above is my home office. I hung up that cute tropical wall folder behind my desk to create storage that is easy-to-reach-to

3. Get an ergonomic chair

The dining chair you’re sitting on doesn’t cut it for a full workday. Also, make sure you’re getting up and stretching once every hour!

4. Try to claim a room with a door

If that means working from your bedroom, great! It’s not being used during the day, so this is a great temporary solution during COVID. Or consider taking over a large closet – my dad did his entire Master’s program from a tiny desk in the closet under our stairs! Brian Patrick Flynn designed the workspace to the right 👉 Sometimes a floating desk and cork board is all you need!

5. Light up your workspace!

Don’t rely on your computer (or just one overhead ceiling light) to light your workspace – that can add to eye strain and leave you extra tired and groggy. Use desk lamps or floor lamps to create a bright and cheerful workspace.

HI, I'M REBECCA WEST!
I’m an interior designer, author, podcaster, speaker, and coach to other designers. (Whew!) But I’m not your classic interior designer because, frankly, I don’t care if you buy a new sofa. I do care if your home supports your goals and feels like “you.” Remember, happy starts at home!
