You’re thinking about having one of our Seriously Happy designers come to your home for a Quick Action Session? Yea!! Wondering what we can really accomplish in 90 minutes? Here are some examples of ways we’ve helped folks, and also some answers to FAQs that might be on your mind.

Wondering what we can accomplish in a Quick-Action Session?

We can:

✓ help you sort through samples you’ve collected and put a cohesive combination together. This is great if you’ve collected multiple samples of counters, flooring, tile, etc for a kitchen or bath remodel, or if you have multiple links up on your computer of rugs, sofas, coffee tables, and lamps, and you’re trying to figure out which ones to choose.

✓ help you pick new paint colors for your home’s interior (check out this blog on how to prepare for a color-focused Quick Action Session.)

✓ discuss the pros and cons of opening up a wall, moving a door, relocating the sink, etc.! (Note, we may not be able to tell you if that wall is structural, but we can definitely help you talk through what you’d get by investing in removing it.)

✓ review plans from another designer or architect. This doesn’t mean you don’t trust your architect – maybe you just want a second opinion, or you want to talk through the furnishings plan, lighting plan, or cabinet layout with an interior designer’s eye for function and flow. (Check out this blog on whether you might need an architect involved in your project.)

✓ give you guidance on current remodel costs and help determine if your ideas and budget align with current costs. Note this doesn’t mean we can tell you exactly what your project will cost – only your chosen contractor can do that – but we can help give you a sense of what to expect.

✓ help you determine your next steps – where to start with your remodel, what order of action to take with your project, how to interview contractors… (Read this blog on questions we recommend asking prospective contractors.)

FAQs

Can we create a floor plan or cabinet layout in a Quick Action Session?

Sometimes, yes! If that is what you’re looking for, please say so as soon as we arrive so we can strategize the best approach. It may take the whole session for us to measure the existing room, put it into our design program, and sketch some to-scale layout ideas. It might even take two sessions if you have a room with a complicated layout! So while we definitely have fun creating layouts on the fly, know that it will limit how many other questions we can address in-session.

Can you tell me *exactly* what sofa or lamp or rug to buy during our Quick Action Session?

Often, yes! But it depends on a LOT of factors. For example, if you have an empty living room and we don’t yet know the layout for the space, then first we’d need to nail down the size and shape of the sofa. Then we have to determine the right color and style – hopefully you’ll have done your homework collecting ten examples of rooms you’d love to come home to – that’ll help us zero in on those style and color answers. From there we can start shopping the “usual suspects” like Room and Board, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, etc, but this process can be slow. We have to find a sofa that is the right size, color, and style, available on your desired timeline, and (hopefully) meets your comfort and quality expectations. More likely, we can help you determine what to look for in a sofa – what color, style, and size, in a single session.

Same goes for a lamp or dining light or rug – we love hopping online and shopping exact items, but whether we can source exactly what you should buy during a single 90 minute session will depend on how many other factors have been nailed down (like your dining table size and style, or the end table the lamp will sit on) prior to starting the shopping journey.

Can you tell me if I can remove a wall during a Quick Action Session?

We can give you our best guess based on prior projects and experience, but in reality, a contractor or structural engineer will have to help you determine if that wall is a structural / load-bearing wall. What we *can* help with is talking through the pros and cons of opening that wall from a design perspective. How will it affect the feel and flow of the space? How will it affect the layout of furniture and cabinets? That’s where our expertise really shines!

What will I “get” from a Quick Action Session. Do you send me notes afterwards?

Our Quick Action Sessions are self-contained, meaning that all our work and answers happen *within* the 90-minutes we are with you. We ask our clients to take their own notes so we can focus on giving you as much information and as many answers as we can, but if you want to take a picture of a drawing we might make during our session, or get some help organizing your notes, or have us send a screenshot of a layout we drafted during our meeting, just say so! Have your wifi password ready so your designer can quickly and easily shoot you an email with screenshots or links, if needed, during the session.

Have a question not covered here, and wondering if it’ll fit the Quick Action Service?

Email our Happiness Coordinator at hello@seriouslyhappyhomes.com and we’ll try our best to get you an answer! If it’s not an easy yes-or-no, we may suggest that you start with a 30 or 60 minute Design Helpline so that we can talk through your ideas without you having to commit to a full 90-minute in-person service.
